Course Reflection

1.
Throughout this class I have learned many, many skills that I had not previously had. This skills have been developed and become solid throughout the 3 major assignments we had, making me a stronger and overall better writer. 2 will be emphasized that I think are the most important.

First, the ability to clearly think and synthesize sources to better understand them and then to ultimately construct my own research and develop a piece of writing off of it. From the get-go we were required to use sources to both back up our research as well as use as reference for our own research. This attribute to correctly and effectively cite and analyze sources is an attribute that will carry weight throughout my years as a student and in life. This skill can be very helpful in the future in my field of study as well as in school or just in life. This is a vital skill that can be forgotten these days and I am grateful to have learned how to grow it.

Second, the awareness of new genres and understanding them as well as using them in different ways for different uses in the world, as well as making sure I am aware of the audience that I am writing to or about. Before this class I was unaware of the amount of genres there are in writing, you know I only truly knew about MLA and the basic genres that were always hardwired into me since elementary school but the other genres that we learned in this class are just as useful, if not more. These genres can be vital to us in the real world when we start jobs and in our careers, to fully understand what each genre is capable of and what it is best used for. The second part of this skill is being aware of the audience I am writing to. In this day and age where people can be more sensitive to things said, it is important to fully understand how to properly and professionally organize your paper to clearly state your side but keeping it unbiased and proper. This also is a critical skill to have because depending on the assignment you are doing the audience may be vastly different, so understanding and making sure you know what style to write in for your audience is a vital skill to have moving forward.

2.
I believe Rhetoric is definitely a useful course to require. The idea of rhetoric may be boring or sound lame to most (it does for me lol) but it is a vital skill and class to have so that students can have the class to develop and be exposed to writing that they may not have known before and that will be vital in the future for every one of their careers. It also builds skills not only just in writing but in everyday life, with critical thinking and awareness of such things. It builds great character and understanding a lot about the world and even yourself. Though it may not seem like an intriguing course but it is an important class that builds and constructs many skills and attributes that can help a lot in the future and in life. Rhetoric is in it's core a very important class, especially in college, because it's more in depth and more helpful than say it was in high school. I thoroughly enjoyed Rhetoric class and am thankful to get it done and to take it, it has created and as well as solidified skills and attributes that I can and most definitely will use in my life. Thank you Professor Paudel!
